Description
This is called a "Rub Out". I covered the entire sheet of white paper with black charcoal, Then I used erasers to create the image. The teeth were whitened using those strips you get at Walgreens...no, just kidding. I used white charcoal. :-)
So often, Jack Nicholson has such a singular look because of his impish grins. I started to create the entire image but my kids saw it at this point and insisted I stop. It's fun to have friends guess who it is. Most get it right sooner or later but some think it is someone else. The funniest story associated with this is that my mother-in-law asked me who it was. I told her and her reaction was way too dramatic for my answer. She could not believe that I had done it and was extremely surprised. She asked why I had drawn him and I said that he had such an interesting facial expression, a one of a kind. Well, she said that this was just an amazing piece of artwork! I should let him know that I had done this. I just chuckled and she said that she would do it if I wouldn't! She was getting up there in age so I just thought her marbles were getting loose. Well, a few years later, she took another look at it and made more comments about Jack and the portrait. She said that Jack was preaching in church the previous week and she had brought up it up and told him that I had "painted" his portrait. So, this lead to an investigation of sorts! It turns out that the associate minister was Jack Neilson....who thinks I painted his portrait!....
Old Ells didn't think she needed hearing aids! Never did. We had a good laugh over it...:-)
I'll be uploading a better image with higher resolution soon. I'm waiting for digital images from a professional photographer. Thanks for Viewing, Dorsey
